School Council

School Council Minutes November: Council members received, reviewed and accepted the minutes for November 2019.

January Calendar: The School Council reviewed the Madeline English School January Calendar of Events

Breakfast/Lunch Program: Mrs. Arloro reported that everything is going well with the program. Facilitating lunches through the schedule has been a challenge. Solutions will be discussed, at the next meeting.

PTO: Mrs. Bairos and Mrs. Belloise reported that approximately 230 tickets were sold for Polar Express Family Night. Face painting was added to replace the horse and carriage ride, due to weather conditions. Mrs. Bairos reported that feedback was positive. The Snowflake Shoppe distributed Snowflake Bucks to assist several students. The Texas Roadhouse fundraising ended. Approximately $790.00 was raised. Eleven students participated.

Title 1 (Mrs. Benedetto): DIBELS winter benchmark testing has begun. Grades four and five are complete. Grades one through three will begin after December vacation. I-Ready ELA will begin January 2nd. Title 1 distributed Math Family Engagement Kits, during Polar Express Night to more than one hundred students in kindergrten through grade five. Mrs. Benedetto provided a copy of the Project Read and Linguistic Course Offerings to all staff. These two programs are being offered to teachers in grades kindergarten through grade five, as well as interventionists and coaches. This is considered the preferred method of instruction for phonics. The Portal to Hope Toy Drive was a great success.

ACCESS Testing (Mrs. Boakye): ACCESS testing will begin after winter vacation. The ACCESS schedule has been created. Teachers have been trained to administer the test sessions. Approximately 130 students will be tested.

First Lego Robotics League Grant: Miss Tringale reported that the students in grades five and six participated in the robotics group. The students engaged in eight weeks of robot building. The students, along with Mr. Jaffe and Mrs. Cavalieri competed in a community service project. The students attended the competition on December 7, 2019 in Shrewsbury, MA.
