1. School Council Minutes September: The School Council received, reviewed, and accepted the minutes of June 2019.
2. November Calendar: The Committee was given the Madeline C. English November 2019 Calendar of Events.
3. Breakfast/Lunch Program: Mrs. Arloro was not present.
4. PTO: Mrs. Belloise reported that the Scholastic Book Fair was held the week of October 10th and raised approximately $1,300.00. Every staff member received a $15.00 credit toward the purchase of a book. PTO noted an increase in the number of volunteers. PTO believes that this was due to being able to provide a schedule to the parents, well in advance of the event, as well as having Volunteer Sheets translated in multiple languages. Fall Festival was a successful event. 350 tickets were sold. Thirty-eight teachers and twenty-four eighth grade students volunteered. The English School thanked everyone who gave so generously of their time to organize, and make decorations and activities for the event . The English School and PTO thanked Woods Electric for its generous donation of 200 pumpkins for the festival.
5. Report Cards: The Committee was informed that first quarter grades will close on November 1st. Report cards will go home to parents for students in grades two-eight on November 12th.
6. Family Engagement Letters: Title I Family Engagement Letters have been translated in multiple languages and will go home to parents on November 12th.
7. Title I: Mrs. Benedetto reported that Kindergarten i-Ready testing is in progress for MATH. DIBELS progress monitoring for Kindergarten-grade 5 has shown good growth. Title I Data coach, literacy and math interventionists are supporting differentiation in the Kindergarten-grade 5 classrooms.
8. Student Council Grade 8: The grade eight student council will be made up of class representatives and will meet twice a month to share ideas, discuss concerns and provide input regarding expectations for behavior and learning, and school-wide activities. President – Annabel Charles, Vice President – Victoria D’Amico, Secretary – Daniella Lopez
9. Art + Green Infrastructure Curriculum Plan: The dedication of the Wyllis Ave. RainGarden will be held on November 4th at 11:00. Mr.Jaffe and the eight grade students that participated in the design will be in attendance, when the Rain Garden is dedicated to Jon Norton, for his thirty years on the Conservation Commision.
10. Sandy Hook Promise: The Attorney General’s Office and the Everett Public Schools have joined in a partnership with the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation to help to empower students to create a culture of inclusiveness. Students in grades six through eight will attend the assembly Start With Hello on November 8th.
11. School Improvement Plan: The School Council received a copy of the 2019-2020 Madeline C. English School Improvement Plan. The committee reviewed and discussed the action plans.
