School Council

October, 2019

 Members Present: Theresa Tringale, John Sutera, Kimberly Arloro, Kristen Bairos, Rebecca Belloise, MaryBeth Benedetto, Tiffany Boakye, Tammy LaRosa, Joseph DiSalvatore,

 Welcome: Miss Tringale welcomed the committee back and thanked them for their participation and support.

Introduction of Council: Miss Tringale introduced Vice Principal John Sutera.

School Council Minutes of May 2019: The council reviewed and accepted the minutes of May 2019.

Lunch/Breakfast Program: Arloro updated the committee on the transition of the new food service provider, Whitsons Culinary Group. Mrs. Arloro stated that Whitsons has been working well with the staff and building administrators to  ensure a postive partnership and quality service for the students. Approximately five hundred breakfasts are served daily. Whitsons is looking forward to including more variety into the breakfast program. Ms. Tringale stated that the students and parents have reported that they are pleased with the new, fresh options. Starting on October 1st,  the menu will have fewer options but more of what the students want. Mrs. Arloro stated that approximately six hundred thirty  lunches are served daily.

Calendars: Miss Tringale presented the council with the October events for the Madeline English School. Supplementary reports are due to parents on October 2.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Octboer 15 from 5-7 p.m.

Title One: Benedetto stated that all students have completed DIBELS testing. Kindergarten students were tested 1:1. Data will be used to devise intervention groups  and to track student progress. Students in grades one through eight will continue using i-Ready to assess progress. Teachers in grades one thorugh five have met with Mrs. Rooney to discuss Beginning –of-the-Year data. Mrs. Benedetto thanked the PTO for including Title 1 in their PTO Breakfast. The parents received free books and were given information on how to select a just right book

PTO (Mrs. Bairos) - Mrs. Bairos reported that the PTO held an informational Coffee Hour on September 11. Parents were introduced to the PTO offiers and learned about upcoming events and fundraisers. Parents were encouraged to become involved in the PTO. The Fall Festival is scheduled for October 9 from 4:30-6:30. The Scholastic Book Fair will begin the day October 10. The PTO will also open the Book Fair to parents during Parent Teacher Conferences on the evening of October 15. October is Bullying Awareness Month. The school will be participating in various events throughout the month. This includes a Unity Tree in which students will post their ideas for ways to prevent/stop bullying.

 Read to A Child - Mrs. Belloise reported that the program began on September 18th for third and fourth graders. Second graders will begin on October 1st. Volunteers from five companies particpate in the program. The program is seeking to increase volunteerism.  The program has approximately thirty-five volunteers. Agero and BNY Melon are the two major contributors to the program. Currently, forty-six students are enrolled in the program.

Safety and Security - Miss Tringale provided everyone with the evacuation route and explained how each room has the procedures posted. Miss Tringale also presented the council with the Madeline English School’s Emergency Preparedness Teams. Miss Tringale reported that the Everett Fire Department conducted a fire drill on September    The school evacuated in 3 minutes and 6 seconds. The fire department will be visiting again soon. The school will continue to practice to achieve an optimum evacuaton time of under three minutes.

EL Family Night - Everett Public Schools will hold and EL Family Night on Thursday, October 10 at 6:00PM at the Parlin School. Translators will be available.

Drive-thru Flu Clinic - There will be a free drive-thru flu clinic at the Lafayette School on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 9:00am - 11:00am.

New Business - Miss Tringale reported that she has received calls from police, tenants and property managers of the Britney Pace Condominiums reporting that trocks have been  being thrown over the fence. All teachers and staff have been made aware of the concern and will closely monitor the students,  during recess. Jerry Navaro contacted Miss Tringale to inform her that he will no longer be able to represent the community at our school council.  She thanked him for his support of the Madeline C. english School.
